When you'd actually use this
You don't always need the whole document. Sometimes you just need a piece of it.
Pull a chapter from a textbook
Your professor assigned chapters 4 and 5. No need to lug around a 300-page PDF on your tablet — just extract the pages you actually need to read.
Extract a receipt from a bank statement
Your bank statement is 12 pages but your landlord only needs page 3 as proof of payment. Grab that one page and send it over.
Separate pages for different departments
Got a report where pages 1-5 go to marketing and pages 6-10 go to finance? Split it up and send each team only what they need.
Split a scanned document into individual forms
You scanned a stack of forms into one big PDF. Now you need each form as its own file. Split by page ranges and you're done in seconds.
Grab the cover page to send separately
Need to email just the title page or cover sheet for a quick preview? Extract page 1 and fire it off without sharing the entire document.

Split vs Extract — what's the difference?
People use these words interchangeably, but they're slightly different. Splitting means dividing a PDF into multiple separate files. Think of it like cutting a book into chapters — you end up with several smaller PDFs. You might split a 20-page document into four 5-page files, for example.
Extracting is more targeted. You're pulling specific pages out and combining them into one new file. Maybe you want pages 2, 7, and 15 — extraction gives you a single PDF with just those three pages in it.
This tool handles both. Enter a single range to split, or enter individual page numbers separated by commas to extract exactly what you need. Either way, your original file stays untouched.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I just grab page 5?
Yep. Type the page number and you'll get a PDF with just that page.
What about a range like pages 3 to 8?
Works too. Enter 3-8 and you're set.
Does it cost anything?
It's free. No catch.
What if my PDF has 200 pages?
Still works. Might take a few extra seconds is all.
Will the pages look different after splitting?
They'll look identical. Nothing changes inside the pages themselves.
What happens if I don't enter any page numbers?
You'll need to tell us which pages you want. Otherwise we wouldn't know where to cut.
Can I split a 500-page PDF?
Go for it. Larger files take a bit longer to process, but we handle big documents regularly. Just make sure it's under 100MB.
Do bookmarks survive the split?
Bookmarks that fall within the pages you're extracting will carry over. Ones pointing to pages outside your selection get dropped — they'd have nowhere to point to.
What if my PDF has form fields?
Form fields stay intact on the pages you extract. If someone filled them in, those values come along too.
Can I split and then merge the parts differently?
That's a solid workflow. Split your PDF here, then hop over to our merge tool to recombine the pieces in a new order. People do this all the time.
Is the original file modified?
Never. We create new files from your original. The PDF you uploaded stays exactly as it was.
Can I get a ZIP download for multiple splits?
If you split into more than one piece, we'll give you the option to download everything as a single ZIP file. Much easier than grabbing them one at a time.
